Monegasque Language
« Ümparamu u munegascu ! »: Let's learn monegasque language!
It was Prince Rainier III who decided to make the teaching of the Monegasque language compulsory in state primary schools from CE2 in 1976, and then in public schools in 1988. It is now compulsory up to 3ème and becomes an optional extra at lycée...
An activity booklet is given to each pupil at the beginning of the year.
In May, a Monegasque language competition is organised for all pupils from CM2 to Terminale. The most deserving pupils are rewarded at a prize-giving ceremony in the courtyard of the Town Hall in the presence of a number of VIPs.
